Why jigsaw puzzles are good for you

Why jigsaw puzzles are good for you

You've finished work, you're sat on the sofa and you want to relax.

But how?

You look around, sigh and pick up your phone and start scrolling. An hour and 30 pointless videos later, you're still sat there, not relaxed.

We want to introduce you to a healthy habit that makes it easy to put down your phone and not want to pick it back up.

Jigsaw puzzles.

Not only are they fun and beautiful once they’re finished, but they can also be extremely good for your brain and mental well being.

Science has proved that jigsaw puzzles can improve cognition and spacial reasoning, short term memory and problem solving.

The smart scientists tell us it's because jigsaw puzzles exercise both the left and right side of the brain. Logic on the left, creativity on the right - a brain-nourishing mix of science and art.

And this isn’t just something the scientists told us. I can think of so many times when doing a puzzle turned out to be so good for me.

If i ever feel stressed, enjoying a nice jigsaw, brings me some calm and quiet.

If i ever feel like i need to take my eyes off the tv, my phone or my computer, a puzzle can offer me a break from all that. And once I get started, I can't stop. I can't tell you the number of times I look up from the puzzle to find that 2 hours have passed and I haven't looked at my phone.

Just one more piece...

And if i ever feel overwhelmed by anxiety and worries, doing a manual activity like a jigsaw can really help me switch off and relax.

And no one says you have to do jigsaw puzzles just by yourself.

You can also do puzzles with someone you love! It gives you the chance to spend time together while enjoying a chat, sharing memories and getting some things of your chest.

You could even indulge in a nice bottle of wine to share...

(of course, in that case, we don’t guarantee the scientifically proven effects will show immediately with the alcohol in your system...🙂)

We all feel stressed out sometimes and that's absolutely fine! We all need a break from scrolling through our screen and we all need some moments where we can allow ourselves to take it easy, and a jigsaw puzzle can be a great tool for that.

We’re not saying a jigsaw can cure your mental health, of course, but what puzzles can offer is the opportunity to take some time off.

They can gift you a moment to unwind and re charge your batteries, and that’s why they are so good for you.
